2017 was marked with the longest urban battle in the Philippines’ modern history. Lasting for five-months, the armed conflict in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, began on May 23 and officially ended October 23 after President Rodrigo Duterte declared the city as “liberated” on October 17.
